"I acknowledge that the place where I teach – Mountlake Terrace High School – sits on the traditional homelands of the Suquamish, Stillaguamish, and Coast Salish peoples. This land was taken by colonizers using the Treaty of Point Elliott, which to this day has never been fully honored. I also recognize all 29 tribes throughout Washington state. As an educator, I commit to remembering the genocide of indigenous people in the United States and pledge to reflect often on the history of the land where this campus is located." ~ Vince DeMiero
